Project Overview

A leading regional university partnered with Total Stormwater Solutions to meet new VSMP permit requirements triggered by a campus expansion. Rather than traditional gray infrastructure, the university chose a green infrastructure approach that would also enhance campus aesthetics and contribute to their LEED certification goals.

Scope of Work

  • Site investigation and stormwater audit across 15 acres
  • Design of six bioretention cells totaling 8,000 sq ft
  • Installation of 12,000 sq ft of permeable interlocking concrete pavers
  • Subsurface drainage system design and installation
  • Native plant specification and planting plan
  • VSMP permit application and agency coordination
  • Monitoring system installation for compliance demonstration

Results

  • 2 million gallons of stormwater captured annually
  • 85% reduction in impervious runoff from target areas
  • Contributed 3 LEED credits toward campus certification
